Make Visible the Sky: Hayden Bowen

March 31, 2020, Kate Belew with Hayden Bowen (Los Angeles)

The opacity grows thinner when the world

each human, holds their breath

and a cathedral of light cascades

We have held the word sorry in our mouths

Tied tightly beneath our tongues

like cherry stems

the ones soaked in red

and here I am, myself eating them out of a jar

they taste of grenadine and childhood and

apologies, nostalgia, and like looking out of a stain

glass window. we have chewed on light, you see

and brightness is a solvent

making visible the sky.
