And So Here We Reach: Rachelle Robinett

April 26, 2020, Kate Belew With Rachelle Robinett (Brooklyn, New York)

There is a world out there

Watching us through clouds, leaves, the breeze

What wide-eyed, how far-fetched shine--

I saw chickens today, pretending not to know

I feel something kin to envy. For feathers, flight, ignorance, or -

A roll in the soil! Skin scratch reminder of what's real.

That willingness to stretch and bend, baba yaga legs.

Out there, it's in here.

I want to say something about inner landscapes but

We are the sky

and so here we reach

in every direction at once. Yawn eternities, pulse seas, shatter

a forest floor like a spiderweb, our bodies.

Eat the light of the world and sigh, life.
