Who Dares to Take a Walk: Aurélie

April 5, 2020 Kate Belew with Aurélie (Lyon, France)

I wanted a forest, deep not matchstick

the deepness of your leaves on me

earth soil, canopy breaking to let light in

from time to time, a blue blink.

I wanted whatever glitter was in nature

whatever fire, joy, sin

could be sewn into the next year’s season, longevity.

I shake my anger on the ground

and ask that it be transformed with the harvest

flowers evaporate, fruits are full of thoughts.

I take a bite out of it, pulled from that tree.

Who dares to take a walk with wolves,

and shuddering branches of hope?
