When I Was Small I Imagined: Diana Ospina

April 4, 2020 Kate Belew with Diana Ospina (New York City)

When I look to my ceiling I see

The dents from heavy stares

when I was small I imagined

I had superpowers and could.

One for every other whisked off petal

on the daisies, of this daisy chain.

I chase the phosphenes like a cheetah chases her prey

gaining speed, a hurtling comet.

Floating, drifting, avoiding

a skill I've carried from childhood in a bag on my back.

In another life, I outran Borisov - without the extra weight.

But here instead, this life is

The resilient cracks on a glass mosaic.
