Took it to the River, Rushing: Kate Seward

April 22, 2020, Kate Belew With Kate Seward

I folded the news up into a paper crane

and took it to the river, rushing

this feeling, like a gathering (or harvest) in hand.

I thought: I will let this go. I will leave it to be consecrated

and I will be one of the lucky ones because of it, swept

into a magic not of my own making, so vast

that all the bars broke to that water, and cages open

onto an expansiveness I had not thought possible

I miss the chill of water from melted snow.
