Pasta Six Ways From Sunday: Lux Aeterna

March 29, 2020 Kate Belew with Lux Aeterna (New York)

During the soundbath, the chimes twinkled

like crystal over the passing sounds of sirens.

I was never good at stilling thoughts

but now I am forced to each day.

What else is there to do with all this time

and no vacations to go on?

The roads are empty but not the wide

open calling kind. And so instead,

chimes, sirens, and pasta six ways from Sunday

if I can manage to recall which day is Sunday.

The singing bowl falls silent and the sirens go on.

These now empty streets wait

and so I do too. It turns out

some of us are more essential than others.

I hadn't considered this when I asked

the universe for some time

to myself.
