I Was Told to Stock Up: Steffi

March 29, 2020 Kate Belew with Steffi (San Francisco)

A seething smile hidden behind-
the shelf in the bodega on the corner, now boarded up.
I don’t even know what I’m looking to find

I was told to stock up on grains, paper goods, grief.

Find your place inside; contemplate beliefs

And so why is it so hard to be still?

Crumbling inside the cocoon

I want to be better at waiting for what is next.

The exteriors harden, will they compress my diamond eyes?

A wait and see game.
