Instead I Gave it to the River: Anna Winham

April 10, 2020 Kate Belew With Anna Winham (Seattle)

I wanted to carve out

side by side sisters

and change our names to

wind whispered rock face

something stoic and kind but also

I wanted to rain

That kind of unleashing that asks

The answers for sources, the sources

which asks the passing in the hallway and

footfalls in evensong why they have

so many arms?

I wanted to branch

arm by arm sisters

faces like names, stoic with rain

I wanted to unleash what I thought

sources had whispered, but

instead I gave it to the river, letting

stones flow in slow geologic

unburned gifting in which I say

I remember wanting to forget.
