I Just Open My Eyes: Rachel Leigh, Ross Weaver

April 30, 2020, Kate Belew With Rachel Leigh and Ross Weaver (Bonny Dune, California)

time reveals ecstasy in simple pleasures

& I, a magician of sorts do too.

no need to seek,

I just open my eyes

& lay my skin bare of all grandiose glory,

holding on to alchemy

the way one would hold onto air, hand held out of window -

or cradle a sunset's last light,

or pause to uncover the covert significance of meat & potatoes

I want and I do not want at the same time.

I can't help, & I can't not help myself from slurping up this sauce of life,

adorn with mugwort, lemonbalm && all Earths gifts that wish sweet dreams.

I leave my rings in the dirt under the moon and wish to blossom in these streams of reflected light

a ritual Grandmother lost sight of passing down.

and thank you crone for teaching me this,

how to remember the wisdom etched in my bones

personified initials carved into a shrewd tree.
