A River is a Doorway: Hayden Bowen

April 30, 2020, Kate Belew With Hayden Bowen (Los Angeles)

The night watchmen talk of the hush that shrouds the city

a cape stitched from whatever is found in the street

a small child pushes her hands into muddy clay, her face

the face of magic, and it is cold, but

the pavement twinkles under street lamps and mist

like the road is a river is a doorway is an entry

to something else entirely.
