Time Travel, It’s a Bitch: Emi, Jackie

March 31, 2020, Kate Belew with Emi, Jackie (New York City)

What do we have that we didn't before?

Perspective, or all the more finches?

We've poured ointment down the walls,

a new kind of abstract art.

Time travel, it's a bitch,

a wholesome bitch though, like my mother

who can bake a mean coffee cake.

Who can skate a gentle knife through the center,

through the delicate and the layers of crumble.

So what do we make of these yesterdays?

With what cadence do we eat them?

Carefully, all at once, or just hold them in our hands?
