The Wisdom of Portals: Sharon M. Chin

May 3, 2020, Kate Belew With Sharon M. Chin (Astoria, Queens)

Oh darlin, what do you think now about windows

Double edged panes that both unite and part us

Some days, I have very little to give

And the outside world is a panacea

Listen, this is what I was always told

That if eyes serve as windows to our deepest souls

then we are not as wise as we might be

On this beltane day, I simultaneously peer outside and within myself

I gather hawthorn to bring inside for

soothing, ancient sedative against anxieties and ague

And so darlin, how do you feel about doors

Unbolted, daringly inviting embraces and

a moon that both slivers and yawns

Can we acquire magic to once more open these portals?
