Some Lucky Bird: Emi, Jackie

March 17, 2020 Kate Belew with Emi, Jackie (New York)

When the earth takes a deep breath,

We will too.

And should we fall from the exhale,

something different than angel —

stretched sail waiting for wind,

some lucky bird caught in a long one,

so we can also stay aloft rising with the currents hot

I've had an aversion to drowning, this whole life...

but I'm open to persuasion

evolution leaps forward.
