Self-Respecting Sphinx: Janet Grillo

April 27, 2020, Kate Belew With Janet Grillo (Los Angeles)

I mean, it was a kind of mirror

the false start of a too early Spring

I knelt at the equinox and asked

As if any self-respecting sphinx would answer.

I mean, I was never any good at riddles.

The unsettling question of humidity hovered

the way some sort of specter would, a haunt

of ghostly heat, ozone descending to avenge

the warmest waters. I do not know anything.
