Here, My Hand Extends to You: Umarrah

April 3, 2020 Kate Belew with Umarrah (London)

To peel back this life we find

an intangible, inexplicable magic is beneath

holding in the palms a ripeness, we didn’t see before.

We are reminded of all that is to come, what we are yet to see.

See the grit of this life, digs its way toward meaning,

dig deeper, you will see the cracks that let light in

(they’re always there) and what’s past that past is brilliant forgiveness.

We breathe ideas into existence, we give soul to objects,

and here, my hand, extends to you through this space.

I know you understand it, I crave the energy that you hold,

and so we share this, peeling back to the hollow of what we are,

the gritty, the gorgeous, the elevated and the damned

to gather it all together like this, thank you.
